In 1989 Joan Donovan started the company with 3 tractors and 10 Bellys to work in the highway heavy construction. A challenge she welcomed after being born and raised in the construction industry. Her father was an asphalt contractor and she now has the passion for being the boss and working to succeed. In the beginning Joan spent long hours on the job sites to keep the trucks working and to ensure deliveries and paperwork were all in order, along with working on the trailers in the field. After several years Donovan started getting work, based on the companies reputation of being on time, the right number of trucks for the job and the service the trucks and office performed. Office personnel are available 24/7
J.D. Donovan, Inc. has grown thier fleet to over 20 trailers and 12 tractors, along with leasing equipment every year to add to the fleet.
In 1991 Donovan expanded into hauling asphalt and was the first woman-owned company in Minnesota to receive a state license to carry such cargo.
